![]() ![]() then nose her over flat and cut the throttle (not the other way around, or she'll stall pretty quickly). Out of your hand, start at ~1/2 throttle and once you've got full control, punch it to full - be prepared to give her forward stick to keep her from looping, but let her climb for a bit. you can run the motor at low throttle and cruise around, but a good glider will be happiest un-powered. When you get ready to fly her, keep in mind flying a powered glider is a touch different than flying most other planes - the motor is designed to climb in a launch as quickly as it can in a very short time span then once at altitude the motor cuts off and you glide down catching as much natural lift as you can. A windmilling prop creates far more drag than a braked prop, and a folding prop even less (but it won't fold unless the brake is on). If you have, that motor will still treat you just fine.įirst thing to do after hooking everything up. If you haven't bought the motor yet, going up in KV will shrink the prop and the drag that comes with it. the positive side, it's hard to break a folding prop. The longer the prop the more you might want a folding prop, but buying a fair folder and hub can get pricey fast. or possibly a shallow 10", although that's probably going to heat the motor up quite a bit, but for a 30 second launch it shouldn't be dangerously hot and should shoot up like a rocket. On that motor you'll probably get more launch/climb speed out of a midrange 9" prop. The 8圆 might be a bit under-propped for that motor, but that's not a big deal - an 8" prop will still give your photon plenty of power. Keep taking your time keeping everything as square and true as you can, and you'll do just fine - Ed's instructions are pretty good. check CoG and test fly - done - crashed - re-test when weather allows.Īny advice/ideas welcome, I am here to learn. ![]() Fuselage - front half made into swappable, done Once I have figured out how to add pics I will post what I have built so far. ![]() ![]() I dont want anything too fast, I will be crashing enough going slowly. I chose to build the EA Photon as it seems like a good stable platform that is easy to build, and not particularly fast. I will continue using it for this build, but I will try and find an alternative for my next build. Its almost twice as heavy as DTFB, and the paper is very hard to remove. I am using Hobbycraft a1 foam board, which I dont particularly like. This is my first ever build and my first ever RC plane.ĪPC 8圆 prop (open to opinions, im kind of guessing with this) Hi guys, I will be using this as a thread to document my progress making a photon glider (original from Ed at Experimental Airlines). ![]()
